Types of Therapy

Depending on your presentation, appointments will include an integration of therapeutic approaches such as psychotherapy via Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) , Person-centred, Schema Therapy, Gottman Couples Therapy, including psychoeducation, relaxation, mindfulness and meditation strategies.

Research surrounding these therapies has proven that psychologists using these approaches can bring about change at the cognitive, emotional and behavioural levels.

Number of Sessions

Determining exactly how many therapy sessions you may need is difficult. It’s common to attend at least six counselling appointments, but on many occasions more or less are appropriate.

Clients should take an active role in determining how many sessions are needed, depending on personal goals and level of distress. Your psychologist will help you consider factors, including treatment progress and maintenance, however ultimately it is your decision.

What is Mental Health?

The World Health Organisation states mental health is a state of mental wellbeing enabling people to cope with life stressors, realise their abilities, learn and work well, and contribute to their community. Psychologists support people to achieve and maintain positive states of mental wellbeing.
